CMX Cloud connector: Direct connection of the WLC 8.3 to CMX Cloud
The Cloud Connector in WLC 8.3 provides the ability to send NMSP data seamlessly and securely from Cisco WLC to CMX Cloud over HTTPS. This allows for delivering Wi-Fi location-based services including Analytics from cloud without the need to install and manage CMX Cloud Proxy on-premises.
Prerequisite -
You should already have signed up for CMX cloud presence service and have cloud account details with you ready. If you don't have cloud account, please visit https://cmxcisco.com and signup for presence service.
Once you signed up and your request has been approved, you should be having mail from CMX Cloud team on your tenant id (tld_id), CMX cloud account credentials and token id.
tld_id is subdomain for your tenant account. CMX Cloud Url for your tenant will be https://tld_id.cmxcisco.com
Configure CMX Cloud connector in WLC 8.3
1. Configuration CMX Cloud through WLC 8.3 CLI
(5508-12) > config cloud-services cmx disable
(5508-12) >config cloud-services server url https://<tld_id>.cmxcisco.com
If WLC version is at 8.3 the following command needs to be used to force the system to resolve to a fixed IP address:
config cloud-services server url https://<tld_id>.cmxcisco.com 54.148.178.128
This command will not be needed for WLC 8.3 MR1 and later releases.
(5508-12) >config cloud-services server id-token <token_id_from_account_details>
(5508-12) > config cloud-services cmx enable
(5508-12) >show cloud-services cmx summary

Troubleshooting WLC 8.3 setup
I configured WLC8.3 with cloud but unable to see any stats on CMX Cloud
Validate if CMX Cloud connector is working fine.
- Once Configured, WLC UI will show Link Status UP
2. Login to your account in cmxcisco.com. Go to Manage->Cloud Enabled WLC
CMX Cloud UI will have a very recent timestamp on the Last Keep Alive column for the WLC added.
3. Monitor for presence analytics data. You will start seeing client count bar charts in about 5 mins
4. Eventually after a few hours the charts will start collecting more analytics like below.
5. Monitor for Data statistics of Connected Clients of guests authenticated using “Connect and Engage” feature.
CMX proxy or https connector is not required for guest authentication. CMX cloud relies on the nmsp data from WLC to report guest network usage chart shown above.
